numerous studies have documented that consumers make 80% or more of purchases in their lifetime withing 20 miles from their home. in the 90's, the Internet was suppossedly going to change this. a 'global marketplace' was created.....a flat world.
fast forward.....web 2.0 is proving the web actually increases 'local' purchases and strongly influences 'local' purchase decisions.
the web is a world of information, but people are still people and will choose to buy locally. human behavior will remain the same.
google is figuring out the importance of this local tendency. adverstisements are increasingly geotargetted as a result.
