Tip of the Day: Go global yet local
September 14th, 2007 · Post a Comment · posted by Jan Norman

Today’s tip is from Jason Galanis of Geomas International Ltd. in Los Angeles, http://geomas.com/.

Small businesses need to be both local and global. How?
Part 1: Harness the power of the Internet. More than 50 percent of small businesses right now have no Web presence at all.
Most small businesses are inherently local, so not being searchable by people in their neighborhood is a huge loss.
Part 2: Embrace the local. Recently, the importance of location has been validated by the increasing investments in the major Internet companies.
Global users have created millions of maps with billions of annotated data points, which provide the proof that individuals will seek location as a priority.
A small business can capitalize on this fact by choosing to advertising on the Web, and using technologies from a company like Geomas to enable them to target a specific localized consumer base.
Share a tip that will help small-business owners, and I’ll use your name, company and Web site. Send your tip to jnorman@ocregister.com.
